NFL Betting – Haynesworth and the Redskins – Not a Good Match

by The Bookie on September 2nd, 2010 No Comments

Albert Haynesworth is disgruntled because he was playing in the third quarter of last Saturday’s game against Baltimore with some of the scrubs. Mike Shanahan, when he’s not dismissing the media on this issue, has said that Haynesworth will have to “earn his way” into appearing with the starters. I would say both sides are right and wrong here. See the full article here.

NFL Futures – Antonio Bryant Has Wasted Everyone’s Damn Time

by The Bookie on September 2nd, 2010 No Comments

One of the trickiest NFL futures to grade is that of the Cincinnati Bengals, who have two trouble makers starting at wide receiver with Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens, but another wide out is causing them bigger problems in terms of roster space. Antonio Bryant is looking at either being placed on the injured reserve, and could be released all together. Harsh news for a player who just… See the full article here.

NFL Betting – Behind the Stats: Backdoor Touchdowns

Simply looking at the final score to analyze the after-effects of a game misses the whole point of handicapping for purposes of football betting.
There’s obviously a lot more to the game than just the score, especially when you’re examining the whys and wherefores of that result, and at the same time trying to get a gauge on what might happen in the next game.

This weekend’s big match-up in Baseball

by theboss on August 27th, 2010 No Comments

Sports Interaction betting analyst Al Dannity breaks down this weekend’s big match-up in Baseball

Sports Interaction betting analyst Al Dannity breaks down this weekend’s big match-up in Baseball.

The San Diego Padres look to continue their miracle 2010 season this weekend with a three game set against the Giants. San Francisco has home advantage and that could prove decisive in a series where these two teams look otherwise inseparable.

San Diego’s performances in 2010 have silenced critics but the Giants have slowly clawed their way back into the playoff race since the All-Star break and now there’s nothing between them and the Padres. Neither side has been particularly dominant of late. I expect this trend to continue this weekend. The Padres should be able to do enough to win one of the first two games but I like San Francisco to have the edge in this series, especially with Tim Lincecum pitching on Sunday. Bet on the Giants to win big with Sports Interaction.

The other big National League match-up this weekend sees the Phillies travel to New York to meet the Mets. Philadelphia can’t seem to quite catch Atlanta at the top of the NL East but I can see things changing this weekend. The Mets are a spent force, waiting for somebody to finally kill off their fading playoff dreams. I see the killer blow coming this weekend. Bet on Philadelphia to sweep the Mets.

Like the Mets, Boston is barely keeping its head above water in the playoff chase. This weekend the Red Sox need to raise their game in a series with the Rangers. Texas comfortably leads the AL West but the job isn’t done yet. The Rangers need to finish the season strongly to have a chance to go deep in October. I like Texas to hold the edge in this series, winning two out of three. Bet on Texas to win big with Sports Interaction.

Finally we come to the battle for first place in the AL East. Tampa Bay is at home to Baltimore and it’s hard to see anything other than a sweep by the Rays. The Orioles have played a little better than average lately but that run is going to come to a halt this weekend. The Yankees take on Kansas City this weekend, knowing they will need to match anything Tampa Bay does against the Orioles in order to stay ahead in the race. While I like New York to win three out of four, I can’t commit to a sweep by the Yankees. The Royals might stink but they can perform in spurts so I like them to take one game in this series. Bet on the Yankees and Rays to win big with Sports Interaction this weekend.

Nationals a good bet? So says bullpen betting system

by theboss on August 27th, 2010 No Comments

With the sudden retirement of Manager Lou Piniella on Sunday Chicago Cubs fans didn’t think their season could get any worse; until now. The Cubs are up against one of the more powerful bullpen betting systems. It seems as if bettors have noticed as 79 percent of the bettors at Sportsbook.com are on the Nationals. The number opened at Washington -142 and currently sits at -172. Nationals a good bet? So says bullpen betting system

If you haven’t been following the Cubs lately, the 2010 season has become a train wreck. The roster has been decimated by trades, injuries, and overall poor play. At 23-games under .500, they have won just five of their last 25 games. In the most recent loss, yesterday at home to Atlanta, the Cubs’ bullpen was ravaged for nine runs in three innings of work.

At the same time, the Nationals’ bullpen has been pitching very well of late, and comes into Monday night’s contest with a respectable 3.55 ERA & 1.338 WHIP overall. In the last five games, the relief staff has yielded just three runs in 15 innings. That success leads to what has been a highly profitable betting system that could impact Monday night’s game. It reads as follows:

Play Against – Road teams (CHICAGO CUBS) – after a game where the bullpen was rocked for 6 or more earned runs against opponent with a hot bullpen whose WHIP is under 1.000 the last 5 games. (59-18 over the last 5 seasons.) (76.6%, +37.3 units. Rating = 4*) The average money line posted in these games was: Team favored with a money line of: -120.6The average score in these games was: Team 5.1, Opponent 3.7 (Average run differential = +1.5) The situation’s record this season is: (11-1, +8.5 units).Over the last 3 seasons the situation’s record is: (31-12, +15.8 units).Since 1997 the situation’s record is: (148-89, +29.4 units). In the Cubs’ last visit to Nationals Park, they swept a Washington club playing its first series under interim manager Jim Riggleman. The Cubs are hoping for similar results in this season’s trip to the nation’s capital as they begin the post-Lou Piniella era. With Coach Mike Quade taking over as interim manager, Chicago begins a six-game trip tonight.

With Quade moving from the third-base coaching box to the dugout for the rest of the year, the Cubs give the ball to rookie right-hander Casey Coleman (0-1, 7.82 ERA).

Coming off a 2-4 trip that ended with Sunday’s 6-0 loss to Philadelphia, the Nationals (53-71) will counter with Livan Hernandez (8-8, 3.06) as they open a seven-game home stand. The veteran right-hander is 0-3 with a 6.32 ERA in his last three starts at Nationals Park after going 4-1 with a 2.10 ERA in his first 10 home outings this season.  Hernandez, 11-6 with a 3.84 ERA against Chicago, receives among the lowest run support in the NL at 3.39 per game. Washington has scored four runs in his last three outings.

Washington has won four of six against Chicago since last season’s matchup at Nationals Park.

Monday night’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET as part of a trimmed down betting board of 10 games for the night at Sportsbook.com.

NFL Preseason Week 3 kicks off tonight

by theboss on August 27th, 2010 No Comments
Week 3 of the NFL preseason kicks off tonight with two games on the football betting board. Week 3 gives NFL bettors the best looks at their teams as the starters get the most action. According to oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com, New England is a 7.5-point favorite over St. Louis, and Green Bay is laying 3.5-points to Indy at home.
NFL Preseason Week 3 kicks off tonight Week 3 of the NFL preseason kicks off tonight with two games on the football betting board. Week 3 gives NFL bettors the best looks at their teams as the starters get the most action. According to oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com, New England is a 7.5-point favorite over St. Louis, and Green Bay is laying 3.5-points to Indy at home.

St. Louis (1-1) at New England (2-0), 7:30 p.m. EDT
Sportsbook.com Line: New England -7.5 Total: 38.5

Coming off a pair of rough performances, number one overall pick Sam Bradford is expected to get the start at QB for the Rams due to thumb and elbow injuries to starter A.J. Feeley. Bradford has completed just 44 percent (12-27) of his passes so far and has yet to find the end zone. On the bright side, he has not thrown a pick.

The Patriots have displayed a balanced run-pass attack in winning their first two preseason games over the Saints and the Falcons. Veterans Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris both topped 50 yards against the Falcons and both scored on TD runs of 20 yards or more. Meanwhile, Tom Brady completed 10 of 12 passes for 85 yards and a TD to rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez. Fellow rookie tight end Rob Gronkowski also caught a TD pass courtesy of backup QB Brian Hoyer.

The Patriots are an obvious favorite in this matchup, but there are conflicting handicapping signs from StatFox demonstrating their ability to cover the rather large number in this contest.

First off, this system suggests the Rams are due to bounce back:

Play On – Underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points (ST LOUIS) – after gaining 5.5 or less passing yards/attempt in last game. (53-24 over the last 10 seasons.) (68.8%, +26.6 units. Rating = 2*)

That angle boasts a perfect 6-0 ATS record over the last three seasons, including 1-0 last weekend.

Still, statistically speaking, this game could be a mismatch. The Rams were outgained by 188 yards per game in their first two preseason affairs, while New England has outscored its foes by 10.5 PPG in going 2-0 SU & ATS.

Indianapolis (0-2) at Green Bay (1-1), 8:00 p.m. EDT
Sportsbook.com Line: Green Bay -3.5, Total: 44

The Colts travel to Green Bay Thursday night still looking for their first win of the preseason. They are infamous for not typically giving a hoot about what happens in these games, but it is apparent that oddsmakers and bettors are expecting a different type of effort today. For one, the Colts are only a 3.5-point dog at Lambeau Field after playing as 4-point dogs at home against San Francisco and in Toronto against the Bills. For two, the line actually opened as Green Bay -4, but has dumped a half-point since.

Peyton Manning played five series and led the Colts to a pair of TD (one rush, one pass) in the first quarter of their 34-21 loss to the Bills last Thursday, but also had an INT returned 78 yards for a score. The Colts D surrendered a pair of long first-quarter scores: a 31-yard run and a 70-yard pass. Backup Curtis Painter bounced back from a dismal opener to complete 5-of-6 passes for 97 yards, including a 43-yard TD strike to Taj Smith.

The Packers dropped their preseason opener to the Browns 27-24, but bounced back to beat the Seahawks by the same score in their second game. Through two games, Aaron Rodgers is already in midseason form, having completed 20-of-24 attempts for 275 yards and 3 TD without an INT. Backup Matt Flynn has not been as sharp, connecting on 19-of- 35 for 199 yards and 2 INT without throwing a TD. He’s also been sacked three times to Rodgers’ none.

It’s difficult to think the Colts would go winless in the preseason again. Consider this system from FoxSheets:

Play On – Underdogs or pick (INDIANAPOLIS) – winless in the preseason. (80-42 over the last 10 seasons.) (65.6%, +33.8 units. Rating = 2*).

However, this game also has a large statistical imbalance, like the Patriots-Rams game. Perhaps a play on the total makes more sense:

INDIANAPOLIS is 12-1 OVER (+10.9 Units) in games played on a grass field since 1993 in the preseason. The average score was INDIANAPOLIS 19.5, OPPONENT 23.4 – (Rating = 3*) The NFL Regular season is just two weeks away. With Reduced Juice Fridays, the $100,000 Perfect Parlay and the $50,000 Survivor Pool, it is no wonder that Everybody Bets on football at Sportsbook.com.
